And am very much looking forward to finally releasing the film I have been working on for over three years as director and writer...
Tamara has never known the country she comes from. She was born in East Germany in 1990.
When her family breaks up, Tamara fights for her parental home, for her relationships - and for her own history.

LANDARZT GOES MUSEUM It is great to see my work Country Doctor as a part of the exhibition Dorfleben at the Brandenburgisches Landesmuseum für moderne Kunst in Cottbus.
A special honor is to be shown there beside my former teacher Werner Mahler's work.
The exhibition will be open until 29th may 2022.
IT'S A WRAP The last take for our feature film TAMARA is taken. It is a wrap!
It is for sure one of the most exciting days in my professional life and I'm still missing words - except "thank you". Thanks to the team as well as ZDF Das Kleine Fernsehspiel, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg

MOON AND GRATITUDE For our feature film TAMARA we had a great shooting night at the observatory in Babelsberg.
It was breathtaking to look through the telescope and it fills me with gratitude to see how what I have been working on for two years is beginning to become real.

REST IN PEACE, CHRISTO Christos Wrapped Reichstag was a significant encounter with contemporary art in my childhood. In assignment for TASCHEN, I had the honor meeting the great artist. As much as I was touched by his intense glance into my camera I was confused by the machinery around Christo, who appeared to me very tired of it.
LAST NIGHT IN BERLIN
KIEV'S INNER CITY Just a few impressions from my short trip to Kiev. What an amazing pulsing city!
WORK PLACE My desk of the last two weeks, where I was writing on a feature film screenplay.
Together with wonderful colleagues we had a concentrated time in Brandenburg - each working on a literary project.
"LISTEN TO ME!" For Chrismon magazine the journalist Nils Husmann and I met Marianne H. to tell her story - wich touches me very very deeply:
Her daughter and grandson were murdered by the husband and father. This man came from Algeria and Marianne H. is now strongly wrestling for a political position and has the impression only the far right wing takes her fate seriously... puh, difficult but very moving and challenging job.
Thanks to the Photo Editor Michael Apel I could photograph this work on middle format film.
CAIRO I had the luck to spend a day in Egypt and got the chance to see the Giza pyramids.
Honestly, I've rarely been so deeply impressed!

I am so thankful and can not imagine a better place! So happy! Thanks again to everybody involved - it was a wonderful work with every single team member and - before all - the protagonists. I am very looking forward to meet again in Havana at Parque Martí...

Right wing Christians For the monthly magazine Chrismon I visited the beautiful city of Bautzen and I was shocked to meet people from the "new right movement" who regard themselves as Christians. I never expected to hear word's to restrict Christian charity out of a pastor's mouth.
So thankful about Annalena Schmidt and others who stand solid against these tendencies!

After I had a picture of a Berlin school recently in Die Zeit you can find my portrait of dutch author and hunter Pauline de Bok in the current issue.
There's nothing better in life than family.
I had the great luck to spend some wonderful days with my siblings' families on my brother's house boat in Stockholm.
These days I had a nice job for Die Zeit in a small village somewhere out there in Mecklenburg.
Going there by bike I was passing this corner fallen out of time. In a way I like it.
Chrismon title Local reporters are so important for our democracy, but they struggle to survive. Therefore Chrismon send me to Plettenberg to spend a day with Stefan Aschauer who is local reporter with heart.
Now we got the news that the publishing company recently fired him for having his own mind, and the bureau will shut down soon.
Reason enough to post the story:
PREMIERE Our fiction SIEBENPUNKT (English Down by the Lake) just premiered at the Max Ophüls Preis 2018. Some of the actors and members of my fabulous team accompanied me for a crazy and amazing week of short nights, wonderful peolple and many many films. Thanks to the audience and the festival!

One year old! I just visited my family in Denmark for my beloved nephew's first birthday. Winter is coming one can feel...
After 500 years Frankfurt Oder's beautiful Marienkirche showes an exhibition with video portraits of historic figures I made in the style of paintings from the time of Luther's reformation, exactly 500 years ago.
"I am your candidate" For chrismon magazine I visited the social democratic candidate for the German Parliament Stefan Maria Stader. I admiringly observed his commitment to meet the people in his constituency Wittenberg which was usually won by the conservatives. He has very little chance but our democracy needs people like him.
PS.: He became fourth, after the conservatives, the leftists and the terrible rightists.
We just finished the shooting for our fiction Siebenpunkt (Down by the Lake).
It was such a great time with my wonderful team and cast - somewhere out at the countryside. Our film will be at the television next year. I am responsible for the screenplay and direction.

Freitag Für die intellektuelle Wochenzeitung Der Freitag habe ich in letzter Zeit wieder einige Porträts gemacht, u.a. von Jürgen Trittin und Thomas Piketty im Bundestag, Frank Bsirske...
...und Mathias von Mirbach.
kurz und nonstop mein Kurzfilm "nichts zu verschenken" läuft auf dem NONSTOPFILMFESTIVAL in Nürnberg. Da poste ich ihn doch direkt nochmal:
lieber sicher. lieber leben Ein sehr intensiver dokumentarischer Dreh an einer Unfallstelle ist abgeschlossen, vier Menschen hatten dort ihr Leben verloren. Darum geht es in meinem Spot für die Verkehrssicherheitskampagne "lieber sicher. lieber leben." des Landes Brandenburg für Kino, Fernsehen und Internet.
Wo Preußen Sachsen küsst ...war das Motto der ersten Brandenburgischen Landesausstellung auf Schloss Doberlug. Ich hatte dafür sieben filmische Porträts historischer Personen als "sprechend Gemälde" inszeniert - dass sie so gut ankamen freut mich ausgesprochen!
Zurück von einer längeren Reise mit zwei guten Freunden in Spaniens Süden:
Der Dichter auf der Insel Für aktuelle Ausgabe der ZEIT habe ich Lutz Seiler auf Hiddensee fotografiert - dem Sehnsuchtsort und Schauplatz seines Romanes "Kruso". Alexander Cammann schreibt im Feuilleton begeistert über das Buch.
Philoktet bei RambaZamba In Berlin hat das integrative Theater RambaZamba die Sage um den griechischen Helden Philoktet auf die Bühne gebracht. Ich habe die Inszenierung fotografiert.
Im Trabbi über Land Der Landarzt Dr. Ballouz wurde im Libanon geboren, floh vor dem Krieg und fand nach einer wahren Odyssee in der Uckermark seine Heimat. Im Trabant 601 macht er Hausbesuche in den Dörfern, bekommt hier einen Kaffee, dort eine Umarmung - und ist nie um einen charmanten Spruch verlegen.
Die Geschichte einer wunderbaren Symbiose habe ich im Auftrag von chrismon für die aktuelle Ausgabe fotografiert. Den Text schrieb Mareike Fallet.

Arno Camenisch in "passagen" Heute erreichte mich die neueste Ausgabe der "Passagen" mit Bildern des Schweizer Shootingstars der Literaturszene, Arno Camenisch, nebst seinen Übesetzern. Das ausgesprochen schöne Magazin wird zweimal jährlich von der Schweizer Kulturstiftung prohelvetia herausgegeben und lässt sich wunderbar anschauen, lesen, in der Hand halten...
last time Bogota Das legendäre Hotel Bogota schließt. Am Sonntagabend, den 8.12., kleben Berliner Fotografen dort als letzte
Aktion Bilder an die Wände. Die Ausstellung ist Teil der "Kleister"-Reihe. Florian Oellers und ich haben dafür
auf unserer letzten gemeinsamen Wanderung fotografiert.
Salman Rushdie im stern Die "Satanischen Verse" werden 25 Jahre alt. Salman Rushdie kann sich inzwischen wieder frei bewegen und ich traf ihn (hier nebst Jonathan Safran Foer) für ein Interview von Hans Hermann Klare in der aktuellen Ausgabe des stern.
Europa ist in Brandenburg Für eine Kampagne des Brandenburgischen Europaministerium fuhren eine schreibende Kollegin und ich in letzter Zeit oft durch's Land und trafen Menschen, die Großes vorhaben: Solarautos weiter entwickeln, alte Obstsorten bewahren, die Arbeitslosigkeit überwinden... Entstanden sind acht Reportagen.

Gestern Abend traf ich die großartige Connie Palmen und bin immer noch ganz hin und weg.
100 Kilometer am Stück Es war ein voller Monat und eine schöne Geschichte ging um die blinde Langstreckenläuferin Regina Vollbrecht,
u.a. Deutsche Meisterin über unglaubliche 100 Kilometer.
Ich traf sie, um für die DIAKONIE eine Audioslideshow zu fotografieren:
Ein schöner Auftrag führte mich heute an die deutsch-polnische Grenze. Nach getaner Arbeit ergab sich die
Möglichkeit zu einem kleinen Spaziergang auf die andere Seite der Oder:
Abriss von Mauerresten Heute wurde damit begonnen Teile der denkmalgeschützten East Side Gallery abzureißen. Sie ist das längste
erhaltene Stück der Berliner Mauer.
Für den Neubau eines Hochhauses mit Luxusappartments wurden Teile heraus geschnitten.
Der Raum Dazwischen Die Organisatorinnen der Ausstellung baten um Porträts und Bilder von Betten. Heute, am 25.1., wird
"Der Raum Dazwischen" in der Kugelbahn (Grüntaler Str. 51) eröffnet.
Kommt schauen, feiern...
Weiterhin sind meine Kleistporträts in der ae-Galerie in Potsdam (Hermann-Elflein-Str. 18) zu sehen, in der Ausstellung "Aus dem Arsenal der Künstler".
Unscheinbare Helden Die Sueddeutsche Zeitung hat ihre "Seite drei" einer Geschichte über Lokalzeitungen gewidmet. Dafür traf ich René Wappler von der Lausitzer Rundschau: So unscheinbar die kleine Spremberger Redaktion auch wirkt, stellt sich der Journalist aktiv den Neonazis in den Weg. Vor permanenten Drohungen lässt er sich nicht einschüchtern, sondern ist inzwischen zu einem regionalen Helden geworden, der sich beharrlich und vor Ort für demokratische Werte einsetzt.
Nachmittagsspaziergang:
Gregor Gysi in Der Freitag: Im Auftrag der intellektuellen Wochenzeitung habe ich in letzter Zeit einige Politiker porträtiert. Für die aktuelle Ausgabe traf ich den Vorsitzenden der Linksfraktion im Bundestag, Gregor Gysi, unmittelbar vor seinem Gespräch mit Jakob Augstein kurz in der Garderobe...
...und beobachtete beide gemeinsam hinter der Bühne:
Jürg Laederach im Standard. Die Wiener Zeitung hat zu einem Text von Karin Kirchmayr mein Bild des Schweizer Schriftstellers Jürg Laederach über den Walliser Alpen gedruckt. Aus diesem Anlass hier noch ein paar Porträts von Literaten während des 17. Internationalen Literaturfestivals Leukerbad:
